“The Body and Biotechnology”
With the possibilities of biotechnology today, the idea of humans with tails and other prosthetic possibilities is not as farfetched as what it once was. On Thursday, October 1, as part of the Thursday Artist Talk series at the Surrey Art Gallery, join Surrey artist Claire Moore for an evening of tales and tails that draw on her four-year investigation into the ramifications of body augmentation.
In her talk, “The Body and Biotechnology: The Corporeal, the Surreal, and One Idea Run Amok”, she will discuss the divergent though process and ideas behind her multimedia work that includes large wire drawings and small tiles of etched x-ray film. Join her for a presentation of slides, journals, and sculptural artifacts.
About the Artist
Claire Moore has a BFA from the University of Cape Town and has been practicing as an artist for 35 years. She offsets studio time with teaching, involvement in Community Art Projects, artist-run spaces and outdoor adventures. An original member and director of The Fort Gallery, Claire now belongs to the DoD (Day of Drawing) and CAM (Contemporary Art Matters) Collectives based in South Surrey. She teaches art classes at the Surrey Art Gallery. While much of her work is in private collections, more can be seen on her website.
There will be time for questions and conversation during and following the talk. The event concludes by 9pm. Refreshments are provided.
This event is presented by the Surrey Art Gallery Association in partnership with the Surrey Art Gallery, and with support from the Arts Council of Surrey.
