Rummage through the attic, check out the storage area in the garage, and bundle up that treasured item.
All items will be given a verbal appraisal by experts who are knowledgeable about jewellery, antiques, collectibles, antiquarian books, and Asian, European, and First Nations art. The appraisers will ask questions such as, “Where did the item come from?”, “How much did you pay for it?”, “Is it a family heirloom?”, and “What do you know about its history?” The appraisers for this year’s event will be Linda Devine, Greg Tolliday, Jane and Jeff Harris, and John King.
Linda Devine is an expert gemmologist specializing in Georgian, Victorian, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco antique gold and silver jewellery, including watches. She can also give an estimated value for scrap gold.
Greg Tolliday has been in and out of the antiques business since establishing a shop along with his wife on Fourth Avenue in Vancouver in the mid-1970s. He and his wife continue to sell fine antiques at shows in the Lower Mainland and, through consignment, in Alberta and the BC interior.
Jane Harris specializes in silver, European art, bronzes, Asian art, textiles, and paintings.
Jeff Harris specializes in the appraisal of Aboriginal and Inuit art.
John King is an antiquarian book dealer with specialties in military history, paper, and vellum documents dating back to the medieval period.
This drop-in event is sponsored by Surrey Art Gallery Association. Observers are welcome.
Cost: $10 for the first item, $5 for each additional item.
